Bayon

Bayon is one of the most magnificent temples. It is 3 levels the bottom being especially creepy with narrow corridors and the faint sounds of rats scurrying in the dark but when you look up you see giant faces watching you. There are over 300 giant faces staring down from all directions! When you climb to the top level you are almost as high as the face towers but the don’t lose any of their dynamism. The face is supposedly a conglomeration of the king who built the temple (Jayavarman VII)and a Buddha face. A peaceful enormous face with a hint of all knowing smile. I can only guess how creepy it could be at night in the moonlight ;P! And what must the citizens of Angkor felt about being surrounded by the face of their king constantly watching from all directions…
